Research or….?
As a writer, everything can be construed as research–if I want it to. If I used a lot of the crap that happens to me in real life, I’d be writing comedy more often than not.
One thing I don’t do is writing down these fodders. I really should make a “really embarrassing things to do to the heroine” file and a “how to make the hero feel like a dumbass” file and “totally frustrating, yet hilarious situations that will put both characters at their worst” file.
Writers out there, do you keep things like this on file to retrieve at a later date or do you depend on memory? Not that I’d use everything done or said verbatim, because it is, after all, fiction, but isn’t it good to have on file?
Lately we’ve been doing some remodeling on our house with the help of one of my husband’s friends. We’ve lived her for nearly ten years now and slowly we’ve been updating things, with the ultimate hope of selling and moving to the country. One of these days we’re going to find we’ve been the objects of some very long running and hilarious ongoing remake of “The Money Pit”. I just hope the *bad word* who lived here before us doesn’t capitalize on anything. Grrrr!
Of course, that movie was rather funny, and so has been living here during destruction construction.
Off to go start some funny files….
Oh home rennovations are painful. We always start off strong, but we never seem to finish.
I have a file of news articles I find on the Internet. Usuall something funny or different that I could use for a story. I’ve only dipped into it a few times, but it’s a comfort to know it’s there.

There’s a story in everything, ya know. And you need construction smileys.

One of the stories I’m writing now is a lot of stuff I went through with an ex. It’s payback time baby! LOL
I think you should use the funny stuff that happens to you. Just change it slightly to protect the innocent.
