Apples

May 24th, 2008

I got this in an email today:

Apples and Wine

Women are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. Most Men don’t want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt.

Instead, they sometimes take the ; apples from the ground that aren’t as good, but easy. The apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, there’re amazing. They just have to wait for the right man to come along, the one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree.

Now Men….Men are like a fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it’s up to women to stomp the shit out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

Okay, so it’s rather detrimental to men, but let’s consider the first part again, especially this last line…

wait for the right man to come along, the one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree

Aren’t THOSE the men we write about in romance? Aren’t THOSE the ones who make up the characters that make us catch our breath, our chest tighten and give us faith in love? Even thought we might never have heard this particular analogy, I think it’s apt–and probably applies to the thinking pattern of most romance readers and writers.

The wine part? I just included it ‘cuz that’s funny right there.

I’m sure it can be called research….

This weekend we helped some friends totally obliterate their kitchen. Okay, so things were neatly and methodically removed, until it came to the ceramic tile floor, cuz, well, it just ain’t gonna happen anything like neat and methodical….

Good company, some really good burgers and a lot of laughs helped make all that manual labor seem slight. We loaded up a whole kitchen’s worth of cabinets and now have them stored in my garage, basement, living room…..go figure. Meant I got very little writing done those two days, but I’ll just figure the experience is worth writing about at some point…eventually. Right?

I just added a cool pal, Rhonda McKey to my blog lineup. She’s a brilliant writer and I’m convinced we’ll soon be enjoying her books right off the shelf in Border and B&N.

Not sure I’ve got much else to report. I can’t believe it’s darn near the end of May. We were hoping to hit the Indy 500 again this year, but doesn’t look like we can spare the expense, considering the next kitchen to be taken down to bare walls and sub-floors will be mine.

Okay, off to write while I have a little time. Ciao!

Oh This is New!!!

Just got a notification that Cerridwen Press that they have added a nifty new button on the side bar to further help you find the kind of books you’re looking for. Already you can search by genre, author or Title/Series.
YOUNG ADULT INTEREST. These are books that have younger protagonists (for the most part) and the content would be appealing to late teen/early twenty age groups of readers. I know those books are out there, and frankly, I know myself and lots of my friends were already reading “adult” books when we were teens, for various reasons, such as they were available, the teen books weren’t all that interesting or hard to find, or we’d gone through those and were in need of other reading material…

Anyway, I’m super pleased and proud to tell you that my Cerridwen Press release, Brand Name Dates, fits this category! It’s a fun book and one I really, really love.

Brand Name Dates
is available in e-book AND print. Hope you can check it out–and maybe even suggest it to a younger reader!

Hmmm, upgrade?

May 7th, 2008

There’s been a note regarding a wordpress upgrade that I’ve ignored for a bit, and just tackled. Wow, that wasn’t so very hard at all.
This week has been a “get it done” kind of week. I’ve a lot more to accomplish, but progress is good.

I’ve been writing, but not gonna say more less I jinx myself and figuratively duct tape the muse’s mouth closed. BAD BAD thing, that.

I see Jaci’s got a smokin’ new cover to go along with those smokin’ hot books of hers. Check it out.

Emma Wayne Porter is a great friend of mine and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention her new gig, editing for Lyrical Press. Do her a favor and check out some of her handiwork..okay, editing handiwork. She’s a pretty awesome writer as well…

Oh, and there’s been some really neat changes, including the addition of three fantabulous writers to the AFTER MIDNIGHT FANTASIES author group… stop by the website–and blog–and check out our contests via writerspace as well.

I’m off to write. BYE!
